Cabrillo College has a chance to secure a grant for up to $350,000 each year over the next two years to support the expansion of our makerspace in a way that will serve our students, job seekers, innovators, entrepreneurs, artists, and all stakeholders in our community.
We’re looking for creative industry, design, and education trail blazers to help in defining and designing realistic plans to create a sustainable, accessible makerspace, vibrant maker community, and education programs that provide work based learning opportunities, such as quality prototyping, 3D fabrication, and advanced manufacturing.
What skills, equipment and techniques should we be teaching and how do we validate acquisition of these skills and expertise? (digital badges?) Courses and Certificate programs? Intensive non-credit workshops offered through our Extension Division? What platforms – hardware, software, and materials do our future employees need to be proficient in? How do we match students to quality internship programs that are substantially subsidized by this grant?
The grant we are applying for has been made available from the California Community College Chancellor’s Office – CCC Maker Initiative.
